N-Desmethyltamoxifen hydrochloride is the principal metabolite of tamoxifen found in humans. It acts as a poor antiestrogen but demonstrates a ten-fold greater potency as a protein kinase C (PKC) inhibitor compared to Tamoxifen. This compound also functions as a powerful regulator of ceramide metabolism in human Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) cells, by restricting ceramide glycosylation, hydrolysis, and sphingosine phosphorylation.
- Potent protein kinase C (PKC) inhibitor.
- Regulator of ceramide metabolism in human AML cells.
- Inhibits glioma cell lines (T98G, U87, U138, U373, ALW, AUK, CAS cells).
- Inhibits growth of MCF 7 human mammary carcinoma cells.
- Major primary quantitative metabolite of tamoxifen.
