Virology: The neutral red solution is also used in the plaque assay for the quantification of infectious particles by quantifying the plaques formed in cell culture following infection with serial dilutions of an infectious sample. Cytology: The neutral red solution application extends to the assessment of cell proliferation and cytotoxicity in the neutral red uptake assay used to quantify the number of viable cells in culture."
