Thermo Scientific™ Nunc™ EasYFlask™ Cell Culture Flasks
Description
Enhance cell attachment, growth, and differentiation with Thermo Scientific Nunc EasYFlask cell culture-treated flasks. These polystyrene flasks receive the proprietary Nunclon Delta surface treatment to maximize adhesion for a broad range of cell types. The ergonomic design with angled neck and wide opening allows easy access to the growth surface by pipettes or cell scrapers.
Features
- Ergonomic design with a 1/3 turn to open and close the cap
- Low profile to maximize incubator space
- Volume graduations printed and molded on both sides
- Slightly angled side walls for complete viewing under a microscope
- Sterilized by gamma irradiation and certified to be nonpyrogenic
- Nunclon Delta Certification, including testing on four different cell types, is provided in every case.
Filter caps
- Filter membrane provides effective barrier against micro-organisms
- Well-defined, hydrophobic filter membrane offers continuous venting with consistent gas exchange and no lot-to-lot variation
- Chemically robust membrane meets USP class VI standards and is produced without animal-derived substances
Solid caps
- Solid caps feature a Y mark that allows visual verification of vent position
- Any of the legs in the Y pointing upwards indicates that the cap is in venting position
- Vent position can be easily distinguished when flasks are stacked in the incubator

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Our Nunclon Delta surface for adherent cells is a standard tissue culture (TC) surface modification that makes the polystyrene surface more hydrophilic. This facilitates maximum adhesion for a broad range of cell types.
The Nunclon Delta surface is Thermo Scientific Nunclon Delta-certified, which is a Thermo Fisher proprietary certification that has a quality standard to help ensure consistency. Every lot of Thermo Scientific Nunclon Delta-certified cell cultureware is tested with Gibco media for:
- Less than 10% growth variation in L929, Hel299 and primary chick embryo cells
- Less than 15% variation colony formation of V79-4 cells

This depends largely on the cell line and working conditions (considerations include headspace for gas exchange, supplements used, and optimal feeding schedule, among others) but we do offer guidelines for development purposes (0.3 to 0.5 mL per cm2) . Note that these volumes are approximate and may have to be modified for best performance. The solid, vent/close caps on our EasYFlask culture flasks make use of a unique thread design to allow simple selection of a complete seal or free air exchange with the incubator environment. Once the cap is attached to the flask, any of the legs of the Y pointed straight down will indicate that the flask is tightly closed. If the cap is then rotated so that any of the legs point straight up, a channel will open to allow for gas exchange.
Nunclon Delta refers to our performance-certified surface for culture of adherent cells, available in a variety of common formats (flasks, plates, multiwell dishes). It is tested with at least four cell lines (varies by product and manufacturing location) commonly used in research, and it should work well for most robust cell lines. It does not involve addition of coating reagent, but rather is manufactured by exposure of the molded products to a proprietary energy source, which renders the surface more hydrophilic by means of increasing the concentration of oxygen-containing (e.g. hydroxyl) molecular groups. It is by this hydrophilic property that anchorage-dependent cells are able to attach to the surface and become confluent.
