Nutrient Agar with Dextrose is an enriched general purpose culture medium used for the cultivation of a wide range of bacteria and fungi. While standard Nutrient Agar supports many non fastidious organisms, the addition of 5 g/L (0.5%) Dextrose provides a readily available carbon and energy source that promotes faster and more luxuriant growth. This medium is particularly useful for enhancing growth of organisms that develop slowly on plain nutrient agar and for stimulating pigment production in species such as Staphylococcus and Serratia, aiding visual identification. It is also ideal for sub culturing and revitalizing older cultures or maintaining stock strains. Each plate contains approximately 20 mL of agar in a standard 100 mm dish, providing sufficient moisture and nutrients for incubation periods of 24–48 hours.
