Nutrient Broth is a general purpose liquid medium widely used for routine cultivation of non fastidious bacteria. Each tube contains approximately 6 mL of sterile broth that supports the growth of many common laboratory organisms. The formulation includes beef extract and peptone, which provide essential nutrients such as amino acids, vitamins, organic nitrogen, and salts required for microbial metabolism. Because it lacks selective inhibitors, the medium supports a broad range of bacterial species including Enterobacteriaceae, Staphylococcus, and Bacillus. Nutrient broth is commonly used for sub culturing colonies, checking culture viability, preparing bacterial suspensions, and maintaining organisms prior to further biochemical or microbiological testing.
