It can stimulate alpha2-adrenoceptors (ARs) in Chinese hamster ovary cells transfected with human alpha2-ARs. Research indicates Octopamine hydrochloride increases glycogenolysis, glycolysis, oxygen uptake, gluconeogenesis and the portal perfusion pressure.
