ODN 2216 is a human-specific TLR9 (toll-like receptor 9) ligand or agonist. It induces high amounts of IFN-α and IFN-β, and also stimulates IFN-α by plasmacytoid DC and IL-12 (p40) production by dendritic cells. This compound can stimulate IFN-γ production in peripheral blood mononuclear cells indirectly via IFN-α/β, activate NK cells, and promote IFN-γ production of TCR-triggered CD4+ T cells.
