Soil covers nearly all of our planet's surface and is essential for plants to grow. Different types of soil are made by different types of parent rock. Show that soil forms layers and how these differ with our easy to make model.

For use in class or for distance learning at home.

  • First, students make their model of a soil profile using the colorful parts of the template.
  • Utilize the model it to look at the topsoil, subsoil and parent material.
  • Takes just 20 minutes to build the model.

The model can also be used to show more detailed layers (horizons) in a soil profile covering the O, A, E, B, C horizons.
