Osteocalcin (OST) Human ELISA, 96 wells. RUO. Immunoassay kit to quantify intact human OST in serum. Does not cross react with N-terminal and C-terminal fragments. Quality controls included. Calibration range: 250 ng/ml. Detection limit: 0.08 ng/ml. Synonyms: Bone Gla protein, BGP, Gamma-carboxyglutamic acid-containing protein. Summary: OST is the major non-collagen protein of the bone matrix and is synthesized in the bone by the osteoblasts. After production, it is partly incorporated in the bone matrix and the rest is found in blood circulation. The exact physiological function of OST is still unclear. A large number of studies show that the circulating levels of OST reflect the rate of bone formation. Serum OST measurement is useful in researching osteoporosis, bone metabolism during perimenopause and postmenopause, hormone replacement therapy, growth hormone deficiency, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, and chronic renal failure.
