Oxaceprol is an orally active derivative of L-proline, possessing distinct anti-inflammatory activity. It is primarily used for research on osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Oxaceprol has been shown to significantly reduce the surface area and wet weight of cotton pellet granulomas in vivo, and to inhibit secondary lesions in the ears and tail in animal models. It does not inhibit prostaglandin synthesis in vitro but markedly inhibits neutrophil infiltration into the joints of rats with adjuvant arthritis.
