Oxcarbazepine (GP 47680) is an anti-epileptic agent that functions as a sodium channel blocker. It significantly inhibits glioblastoma cell growth and induces apoptosis or G2/M arrest in glioblastoma cell lines. It exhibits both anti-cancer and anticonvulsant effects.

  • Inhibits glioblastoma cell growth with IC50 values of 12.35 μg/mL for U87 cell lines and 9.45 μg/mL for T98 cell lines.
  • Protects mice and rats against generalized tonic-clonic seizures induced by electroshock.
  • No tolerance to anticonvulsant effect observed in rats treated daily for 4 weeks.
  • Functions as a sodium channel blocker.
  • Induces apoptosis or G2/M arrest in glioblastoma cell lines.
