Its hydroisomerization using a nanocrystalline beta (BEA) zeolite has been proposed. It has been reported as one of the products formed from the peroxidation of unsaturated fatty acid. It isomerizes to iso-pentane in the presence of ZSM-5 (Zeolite Socony Mobil-5) zeolite catalysts under hydrogen and nitrogen atmosphere.
