Recombinant Protein

The IL-6 protein is a pleiotropic cytokine that plays an important role in host defense by regulating immune and inflammatory responses. Produced by T cells, monocytes, fibroblasts, endothelial cells and keratinocytes, IL-6 has diverse biological functions. The PeproTech Recombinant Human IL-6 is a 20.9 kDa protein containing 184 amino acid residues. PeproGMP IL-6 cytokine is most often used with PeproGMP SCF, PeproGMP TPO (thrombopoietin) and PeproGMP Flt3-ligand in hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) cultures. IL-3 may also be used for further synergistic expansion and immune cell maturation. PeproGMP Recombinant Human IL-6 is also commonly used with PeproGMP IL-2 and PeproGMP IL-15 for B cell cultures. Reconstitute using sterile water (i.e., WFI) to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/ml. All PeproGMP™ products are manufactured using animal-derived component free materials. IL-6 is a gene that encodes a cytokine that plays a role in inflammation and the maturation of B cells. The protein produced by this gene is an endogenous pyrogen that can induce fever in people with autoimmune diseases or infections. The gene is primarily expressed at sites of acute and chronic inflammation, where it is secreted into the serum and induces a transcriptional inflammatory response through interleukin 6 receptor, alpha. The functioning of this gene is implicated in a wide variety of inflammation-associated disease states, including suspectibility to diabetes mellitus and systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Elevated levels of the encoded protein have been found in virus infections, including COVID-19 (disease caused by SARS-CoV-2). Diseases associated with IL6 include Kaposi Sarcoma and Rheumatoid Arthritis, Systemic Juvenile.
