Phenylephrine hydrochloride is a selective α1-adrenoceptor agonist that promotes cardiac fibroblast proliferation via the Ca(2+)/CaN/NFAT pathway. It rapidly activates p38-MAPK isoforms, increases heart contractility, and activates SAPKs/JNKs in neonatal ventricular myocytes. It also increases alveolar fluid clearance and accelerates the absorption of pulmonary edema.
