Used as a bluing agent for hematoxylin staining

  • It is a strong alkaline solution that helps to blue sections adequately, making it easier to see the details of the tissue samples
  • The pH of ammonia water is typically around 10, which is considered too high for some procedures, however, it is still used in some labs as a last resort to ensure sections do not wash off or wrinkle
