It is a non-toxic fullerene which is attached with 12-42 hydroxyl groups per molecule that result in water solubility. Its structure and the position of the hydroxyl groups will depend on the existing pH of the media.PHF may be incorporated in titanium dioxide to form a nanocomposite which can be potentially used in the photocatalysis of semiconductors. Its photothermal and therapeutic properties may be used in non-invasive image based therapy of cancer.
