Potato Dextrose Agar with Chloramphenicol and Chlortetracycline is a selective fungal culture medium designed for the isolation and enumeration of yeasts and molds in samples containing significant bacterial contamination. The base PDA formulation provides nutrients derived from potato infusion and dextrose that support fungal growth and spore development. The addition of the antibiotics chloramphenicol and chlortetracycline suppresses a broad range of bacterial species that might otherwise overgrow the plate. This allows slow growing fungal colonies to develop clearly for easier identification and counting. The formulation is particularly useful when testing complex environmental samples such as soil, food products, plant materials, or industrial raw materials where bacterial background flora may be present.
