Protriptyline hydrochloride is a potent tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) that inhibits Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity and Aβ self-assembly. It is used in the study of depression and Alzheimer's disease. In vitro, it causes cytotoxicity in PC3 cells. In vivo, it has been shown to improve spatial learning and retention memory in rat models of Alzheimer's disease.
