It has anti-inflammatory, anticancer, immunosuppressive, antifungal and antifertility properties. Effects relevant to its anticancer properties include, apoptosis and autophagy induction, preventing angiogenesis, microtubule-destabilizing, induction of cell cycle arrest, inhibition of multidrug resistance and inhibition of tumor growth in vivo. It inhibits NF-kappa and p38 signaling and has been shown to be a PPARalpha signaling agonist.
