Peptone Yeast Extract Broth Based Media are enriched nonselective broth used for growth & identification of anaerobic bacteria based on their biochemical features. This media is prepared, dispensed, & packaged under oxygen-free conditions to prevent the formation of oxidized products prior to use.PY Broth contains hemin & vitamin K for the recovery of fastidious organisms such as Prevotella spp & Porphyromonas spp. PRAS (Pre-reduced anaerobically sterilized) biochemicals are considered the gold standard for biochemical testing & characterization of anaerobes. Adding specific biochemical, the Peptone Yeast Extract Broth Based Media can determine whether anaerobic bacteria will utilize the biochemical or if growth is stimulated or inhibited. PY was originally formulated for use in chromatographic analysis of metabolic products from the fermentation of glucose.
