Require 13 to 20% less space than round bottles

Manufactured from PYREX borosilicate glass for chemical and thermal resistance. Square bottles are easier to handle, require less space (13% to 20%) on the shelf or in the autoclave and are ideal for mixing, sampling, and storage. Features include white enamel graduations, large marking spot and a glass ridge molded into the bottle to indicate full capacity. Includes linerless, one-piece, autoclavable, orange, polypropylene plug seal cap with drip-free pouring ring. A wide range of optional caps are available under the catalog 1395 series.

Do NOT have caps tightened immediately after autoclaving as the vacuum resulting from cooling can cause breakage. Not applicable for vacuum use.

How can I increase the lifespan of my PYREX and PYREXPLUS bottles?

Proper care includes:
• Avoiding mechanical damage (e.g., scratches or chips)
• Preventing thermal shock
• Following recommended cleaning and sterilization techniques

How should I clean PYREX bottles?

1. Wash bottles promptly after use, or soak them in water if immediate cleaning isn’t possible
2. Sterilize bottles contaminated with biological materials before cleaning
3. Use detergent and rinse thoroughly with tap water, followed by deionized or distilled water
4. For new bottles used in cell culture, soak in a 1% hydrochloric or nitric acid solution before washing

What precautions should I take when autoclaving PYREX bottles?

• Do not tighten caps immediately after autoclaving to prevent vacuum breakage, except for vented caps (e.g., 1395-45LTMC)
• Replace vented caps after 3-5 autoclave cycles or if the membrane is damaged

Can I use PYREX bottles with bottle-top filter units?

Do not use bottle-top filter units with reagent bottles larger than 1000 mL or laboratory bottles larger than 2000 mL.

Are PYREX bottles suitable for vacuum or pressure applications?

PYREX bottles larger than 2000 mL are not recommended for vacuum applications. Additionally, 1396 and 1397 series bottles are not designed for vacuum use.

What safety precautions should I take when using PYREX bottles?

Follow these safety guidelines:
• Avoid using scratched, cracked, or nicked glassware
• Do not expose bottles to direct heat, such as a flame or hot plate
• Prevent thermal shock by avoiding rapid temperature changes (e.g., placing hot bottles on cold surfaces)
• Do not refrigerate below -20°C or expose PYREXPLUS bottles to temperatures above 80°C

Are vented caps available, and what are they used for?

Yes, vented caps with a 0.22 µm PTFE membrane allow automatic gas exchange during autoclaving. They are suitable for use with bottle sizes ranging from 100 mL to 2000 mL.

Can the caps withstand high temperatures?

The standard orange polypropylene caps can withstand up to 140°C. Optional red PBT caps with PTFE-coated liners are available for applications requiring temperatures up to 180°C.

What types of caps are available for PYREX bottles?

A variety of optional closures are available, including:
• Plug seal, GL45 and GLS80 color-coded caps for sorting and identification
• High-temperature PBT caps with PTFE-coated liners, ETFE copolymer rings, or silicone septa (suitable for dry heat sterilization up to 180°C)
• Vented GL45 caps with 0.22 µm PTFE hydrophobic membranes for automatic gas exchange
• Open-top PBT caps in GL25, GL32, and GL45 sizes
• Silicone or PTFE-faced silicone septa for open-top caps

What material are PYREX bottles made of?

PYREX bottles are made from Type I, Class A borosilicate glass, which is chemically resistant and has low thermal expansion. They come with clear polypropylene pouring rings and caps and are fully autoclavable.

What are PYREX and PYREXPLUS reusable laboratory bottles used for?

PYREX bottles are heavy-duty storage vessels designed for reagents, sterile tissue culture media, biological fluids, aqueous and nonaqueous solutions. PYREXPLUS bottles have a PVC coating for added protection, and Low Actinic bottles are available for light-sensitive materials.
