Acts as a coenzyme in transamination, decarboxylation and deamination reactions. Pyridoxal-5-Phosphate Monohydrate, MP Biomedicals is an active form of Vitamin B6, an enzyme prosthetic group. It is useful for modifying lysyl and valyl residues in proteins

PLP acts as a coenzyme in conversion reactions, such as the conversion of dopa into dopamine, of glutamate into GABA, and of histidine to histamine. It works mechanistically through formation of a Schiff-base.
