Pyrithione is an inhibitor of membrane transport processes in fungi and acts as a potent antibiotic aspergillic acid. When Penicillium mycelia are incubated with Pyrithione, a significant decrease in the activities of various independently regulated transport systems is observed.
- Inhibits membrane transport processes in fungi.
- Functions as a potent antibiotic aspergillic acid.
- Decreases activities of various independently regulated transport systems.
- Inhibits 35SO42- transport in P. notatum in vitro (IC50 = 0.6 mM).
- Inhibits L-[14C]-phenylalanine transport in P. chrysogenum in vitro (IC50 = 0.6 mM).
- Reduces ATP levels in P. chrysogenum to about 40% of initial level at 2.5 mM.
- Prevents incorporation of internal accumulated L-[14C]tryptophan and 35SO42- into protein at 5 mM.
