(R)-( )-Etomoxir sodium salt (CAS 828934-41-4) functions as an irreversible inhibitor of carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1 (CPT-1) a mitochondrial enzyme essential for fatty acid oxidation In vitro studies show increased apoptosis in antigen-stimulated T cells cultured under low-glucose conditions upon etomoxir treatment whereas no effect is observed in high glucose environments In vivo experiments using C57BL/6 mice demonstrate reduced infiltration of immune cells including macrophages activated microglia and T cells into the central nervous system following etomoxir treatment (15 mg/kg i p ) which correlates with diminished inflammatory and demyelinating reactions Thus etomoxir serves as a valuable tool in metabolic and immunological research contexts
