(Rac)-sn-Glycerol 3-phosphate is an a-site substrate analogue. It binds to the a-site, strongly inhibiting the reaction rate of indole and nucleophilic indole analogues with E(A-A). It is also a phosphorylated derivative of glycerol produced as an intermediate in the glycolysis pathway. (Rac)-sn-Glycerol 3-phosphate binds to the α subunit of tryptophan synthase, regulating tryptophan synthesis through allosteric inhibition. It provides microorganisms with advantages in nutrient-lacking environments as a phosphorus, carbon, and energy source, and can be used for microorganism cultivation. Additionally, it binds to metal ions, forming insoluble phosphate minerals, and can be used for in situ bioremediation to reduce environmental pollution.
