Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ BactiDrop™ Kovac's Indole
Description
Determine of the ability of microorganisms, primarily Enterobacteriaceae, to split indole from the tryptophan molecule with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ BactiDrop™ Kovac's Indole reagent. Earlier tests to confirm indole production required a xylene extraction procedure to detect small quantities of indole produced from the breakdown of tryptophan. Kovac's utilized amyl alcohol instead of ethyl alcohol to bypass the extraction procedure involved in the Ehrlich-Beohme reagent1. Gadebusch and Gabriel reported that substitution of isoamyl alcohol resulted in greater stability of Kovac's reagent2.
