Thermo Scientific™ Blood Agar with Neomycin
Description
Selectively isolate Streptococcus pyogenes and Streptococcus pneumoniae from the upper respiratory tract with this selective medium.
Selectively isolate Streptococcus pyogenes and Streptococcus pneumoniae from the upper respiratory tract with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Blood Agar with Neomycin (TSA with 5% Sheep blood). Blood Agar with sheep blood has shown to be the most accurate medium for the determination of streptococcal hemolytic activity. The 10 μg/ml neomycin in the medium is inhibitory to most Enterobacteriaceae, Neisseria, and Staphylococcus spp without being inhibitory to streptococci.
Use Blood Agar with Neomycin (TSA with 5% Sheep blood) for selective isolation of Streptococcus pyogenes and Streptococcus pneumoniae from the upper respiratory tract.
- The addition of defibrinated sheep blood enriches the medium by providing essential growth factors and also allows hemolytic reactions to be determined.
- The 10 μg/ml neomycin in the medium is inhibitory to most Enterobacteriaceae, Neisseria, and Staphylococcus spp without being inhibitory to streptococci.
- Ready-to-use convenience of prepared media.
