Selectively isolate and differentiate Salmonella species other than Salmonella typhi from food and other materials with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Brilliant Green Agar with Novobiocin. The medium is recommended by the American Public Health (APHA) for the recovery of Salmonella from food products1. Moats added novobiocin to the medium to inhibit growth of Proteus in culture from beef and poultry products2.
Salmonella infection (salmonellosis) is a common bacterial disease that affects the intestinal tract. Salmonella bacteria typically live in animal and human intestines and are shed through feces. Humans become infected most frequently through contaminated water or food.
Use Brilliant Green Agar for isolation of salmonellae other than Salmonella typhi.
- Selective: brilliant green in the medium inhibits the growth of non-target organisms.
- Easy-to-read: Salmonella colonies are easy to read as they range from reddish to pink to nearly white in color with red zone.
- Corresponds to the medium recommended by the APHA1
