Polack and Benham demonstrated the use of cornmeal agar for studying differential mycelial characteristics of Candida species1,2. Adding polysorbate 80 to cornmeal agar stimulates chlamydospore formation by Candida albicans3-4.
Cornmeal Agar with Polysorbate 80 and trypan blue is a solid medium recommended for use in qualitative procedures as a general-purpose media for cultivating fungi and stimulating chlamydospore production by Candida albicans.
