Cultivate and maintain fungi using Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Cornmeal Agar. In 1955, Hazen and Reed utilized Cornmeal Agar for culturing pathogenic fungi1. Benham used Cornmeal Agar for studying the morphology of Candida species2. Cornmeal Agar is a nutritionally deficient, general purpose medium which is used for the maintenance of fungal stock cultures3-5.

This medium is recommended for use in qualitative procedures. Cornmeal Agar consists of cornmeal extract and agar. Cornmeal extract provides essential nutrients needed to support the growth of fungi whereas agar acts as a solidifying medium.
