Thermo Scientific™ Remel LB Agar (Luria-Bertani) is for the cultivation and maintenance of Escherichia coli for genetic and molecular studies.

The growth of recombinant strains of Escherichia coli is enhanced by the nutritionally formulated LB Agar, Miller. These strains are generally derived from E. coli K12 and are unable to produce vitamin B, so they fail to grow on nutritionally deficient media.

Use LB Agar for cultivation and maintenance of E. coli for purposes of cloning, plasmid propagation, and protein expression in standard molecular microbiological procedures.

This medium contains tryptone that supplies nitrogen, amino acids, and carbon required for the bacterial growth. Sodium chloride provides essential electrolytes and maintains osmotic equilibrium. Vitamins, amino acids, and trace elements are provided by yeast extract and these enhance the bacterial growth and plasmid yield.
