Mueller Hinton formulated this medium as a protein-free medium for the purpose of isolating pathogenic Neisseria1. This was later used for testing gonococci and other organisms for susceptibility to sulfonamides2,3. More recently, MH Broth with Cations has become useful as a general-purpose cultivation broth.
