Description

Differentiate and identify catalase producing Mycobacterium spp. using Polysorbate 80, 10% reagent.

Differentiate and identify Mycobacterium spp. with the catalase test using Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Polysorbate 80, 10% reagent. Most strains of mycobacteria produce catalase1. The catalase test is a semiqualitative test which was developed to help in differentiation of organisms included in Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (drug-resistant strains) from other Mycobacterium spp2 (non-drug-resistant strains)3,4.

Polysorbate 80 helps in dispersing the hydrophobic, tightly clumped mycobacterial cells from large aggregates to individual bacilli, thus maximizing the detection of catalase. 10% Polysorbate 80 permits more rapid entry of compounds, such as 30% hydrogen peroxide into the mycobacterial cell by lowering the surface tension in a medium.Ready-to-use: Liquid reagentEasy to interpret:Strong Positive Test: A column of bubbles > 45mmWeak Positive Test: A column of bubbles < 45mmNegative Test: No bubblesThis reagent contains 0.2 g/1000mL of Polysorbate 80 (CAS 9005-65-6) supplied in 10mL bottles.Not all products are available for sale in all territories.
