Thermo Scientific™ Selective A-8 Agar
Description
Cultivate, identify and differentiate Ureaplasma urealyticum and Mycoplasms hominis with this selective, ready-to-use medium
Cultivate, identify and differentiate Ureaplasma urealyticum and Mycoplasms hominis with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Selective A-8 Agar. This selective and differential medium utilises the ability of Ureaplasma urealyticum to hydrolyze urea with the production of ammonia and resultant alkalinity. Manganous sulphate is added as an indicator. The ammonia produced during urea hydrolysis results in precipitation of a metallic oxide reaction product within and on the surface of Ureaplasma colonies1.
Mycoplasma hominis and Ureaplasma urealyticum can be isolated with considerable frequency from the human urogenital tract and are thought to cause various syndromes such as nongonococcal urethritis, pelvic inflammatory disease, pyelonephritis or infertility.
Use Selective A-8 Agar for cultivation, identification, and differentiation of Ureaplasma urealyticum and Mycoplasms hominis.
- Selective: Cefoperazone is added as a broad-spectrum antibiotic which inhibits many Gram-negative and Gram-positive organisms while amphotericin B inhibits yeasts and molds.
- Easy-to-read: Ureaplasma urealyticum can be differentiated from other genital mycoplasmas due to manganous sulfate in the medium which combines with urease to form a golden brown pigment.
- Ready-to-use: convenience of prepared media.
