Selectively isolate Salmonella from fecal specimens using Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Tetrathionate Broth enrichment medium. This broth was originally described by Muller for cultivation of Salmonella spp1. He demonstrated coliforms were inhibited in the medium while certain enteric gram-negative bacilli, such as Salmonella spp. grew very well. Kauffmann reported an increase in the recovery rate of Salmonella in the Muller medium2,3.
