Description

Differentiate Enterobacteriaceae based on urea hydrolysis using ready-to-use liquid medium Urea Broth (Stuart's).

Differentiate genera within the Enterobacteriaceae on the basis of urease production with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Urea Broth (Stuart's). Urea Broth (Stuart's) was developed by Stuart et al. to differentiate Proteus from other genera within the Enterobacteriaceae1,2. This medium is designed such that it detects urease activity in organisms which produce ammonia in a highly buffered medium with limited nutrients. Such organisms include Proteus spp., Morganella morganii, Providencia rettgeri, and urease-positive Providencia stuartii3.

Urea Broth (Stuart’s) is a liquid medium used to detect microorganisms on the basis of urease production. It is a medium with high buffering capacity and limited nutrients. Other genera within the Enterobacteriaceae which hydrolyze urea, will not
