Description

The Reticulum Stain Kit is used as a histochemical stain to demonstrate reticular fibers.

Reticular fibers are demonstrated by ammoniacal silver stains. Tissue sections are oxidized by potassium permanganate, then oxalic acid removes the excess potassium permanganate. Ferric ammonium sulfate acts as the sensitizer. After the silver permeation, formalin is used to reduce the silver to its visible metallic form. Finally, gold chloride tones the sections and any unreduced silver is removed by sodium thiosulfate. Kit Components:

  • Sodium Hydroxide Solution: 100 mL
  • Potassium Permanganate Solution: 250 mL
  • Oxalic Acid Solution: 100 mL
  • Ferric Ammonium Sulfate Solution: 250 mL
  • Silver Nitrate Solution: 50 mL
  • Gold Chloride Solution: 250 mL
  • Sodium Thiosulfate Solution: 250 mL
