Ro 48-8071 is an inhibitor of oxidosqualene cyclase (OSC) with an IC50 of approximately 6.5 nM. It has demonstrated the ability to reduce cholesterol synthesis in HepG2 cells with an IC50 value of approximately 1.5 nM. In various cancer cell lines, Ro 48-8071 has shown cytotoxicity and can induce apoptosis. It has also been observed to lower LDL-C in hamsters and significantly reduce in vivo tumor growth in mice without causing weight loss.
