(S)-Timolol maleate is a non-cardioselective hydrophilic β-adrenoceptor blocker, commonly used as a standard medication for intraocular pressure (glaucoma) by preventing the production of aqueous humor. It can also be used for hypertension, angina pectoris, and myocardial infarction. As a chiral compound with one asymmetric carbon, the (S)-enantiomer is a non-cardioselective β-adrenergic blocker, with the (R)-isomer having lower biological activity.
