Sabouraud Dextrose Broth with Chloramphenicol is a selective liquid culture medium designed for the enrichment and isolation of yeasts and molds from samples containing mixed microbial populations. The formulation enhances standard Sabouraud broth by including chloramphenicol, a broad spectrum antibiotic that suppresses many Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. This helps prevent bacterial overgrowth that can interfere with fungal detection. The broth contains a high level of dextrose to support fungal metabolism and maintains an acidic pH that further discourages bacterial growth. It is widely used in environmental monitoring, food testing, and pharmaceutical microbiology when samples may contain both bacteria and fungi but selective fungal recovery is required.
