Sapropterin dihydrochloride is an orally active phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH) cofactor. It is effective in reducing blood phenylalanine concentrations and can be used in the study of phenylketonuria (PKU). Additionally, it has been shown to aggravate experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE).
