Sendai virus strain Sendai/52 is propagated in SPF chicken embryonated eggs. This strain was isolated from the lung of a patient with a fatal case of newborn pneumonitis in Japan in 1952 and was deposited by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The virus has applications in respiratory disease research.
