Sodium bicarbonate acts a weak buffer with that makes maintaining a pH range of 7.2 to 7.6. It is also used as a nutrient source.

  • Applications: This solution prepared in water is used as an injection in the pharmaceutical industry and is used to treat cement contamination in shore pac drilling slurry and bentonite water based drilling fluids. It is also used as a buffer. Sodium bicarbonate will remove calcium and manganese making hard water soft.
