Sulfamerazine (RP-2632) is a sulfonamide antibacterial. It is a monomethyl derivative of sulfadiazine, specifically 2-sulfanilamido-4-methylpyrimidine. This sulfonamide drug inhibits bacterial synthesis of dihydrofolic acid by competing with para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) for binding to dihydropteroate synthesizes.
