Recombinant SUMOstar Protease 1 specifically recognizes and cleaves the SUMOstar tag from recombinant fusion proteins made with SUMOstar expression systems (Cat.#s: 1100A, 1106, 1100K, 1101, 2100, 2101, 2160, 2161, 3100, 3101, 7110, 7111, 7120, 7121). Unlike thrombin, EK, or TEV proteases, which recognize short, linear sequences, SUMOstar Protease 1 recognizes the tertiary structure of SUMOstar. As a result, SUMOstar Protease 1 will not cleave within the protein of interest. SUMOstar Protease 1 will not cleave SUMO-tags from proteins expressed with the SUMOpro or SUMOpro3 systems. To cleave the SUMOpro tag (orginial yeast SUMO tag), please use SUMO Protease 1 and to cleave SUMOpro3 tag please use SUMO Protease 2. This product contains 5000 units of SUMOstar Protease, where 1 U will cleave >90 µg of SUMOstar-GFP in 1 hour at 37C
