Thermo Scientific™ SureSTART™ GOLD-Grade Glass Inserts (Level 3) for 2 mL HPLC and GC Vials
Description
Choose Thermo Scientific SureSTART GOLD-Grade Glass Inserts (Level 3) with 2 mL vials when analyzing small sample sizes (2 mL samples) containing analytes such as polar compounds that strongly adsorb on a glass surface or are sensitive to sample pH changes. Our Level 3 inserts are made of low-adsorption GOLD-grade glass and offer:
- Highest glass purity available
- Lowest possible surface activity
- Ultra-low adsorption and pH shift for ultra trace analysis
- Compatibility with 2 mL screw, snap, and crimp vials
Level 3 vials are designed to protect your most valuable samples and deliver consistent, reproducible results for your most demanding analyses. They are Specification Certified to ensure their physical dimensions and autosampler compatibility. Buy in bulk for greater savings.

The SureSTART Performance Levels
SureSTART vials, caps, inserts, septa, and kits are available in three performance levels. Now you can choose the products that best suit your analytical, performance, or budget needs.
• Level 1: Everyday analysis
Chromatography approved
SureSTART Level 1 products are cost optimized, suitable for all instrument types, and quality tested to deliver the performance, sample security, and reproducibility you need for everyday analyses. They are an ideal solution for verifying compound presence and quantification using detection techniques such as UV, RI, and FID.
• Level 2: High-throughput analysis
When robustness and reproducibility are key
SureSTART Level 2 vials have very low metal contents and leachables to ensure that they conform to the high standards you need to meet your regulatory requirements. The septa are conditioned to provide a very low level of chromatographic extractables. These products support routine analyses and deliver high quality data with an uninterrupted workflow.
• Level 3: High performance
When sensitivity is a must
SureSTART Level 3 products are packed in a clean environment according to our own hygiene concept and regulations to protect against contaminating factors. The vials contain the lowest levels of extractable metals and leachables to ensure consistent, reproducible sensitivity and selectivity for the most challenging analytes. The septa are conditioned to provide the lowest level of chromatographic extractables. Choose these products for ultimate method performance and high levels of and sample security and integrity.
All SureSTART vials, closures, and septa are certified to meet physical parameter specifications as part of our manufacturing process.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
For very polar compounds, including ionizable biomolecules and inorganic ions, the use of a plastic vial may be considered. Polypropylene vials are included in the SureSTART range as a Level 1 range of products.
Most polar analytes can be analyzed successfully in glass vials with few problems at normal analytical levels. Low concentrations may require investigation of deactivated vials, but in most cases the control of the sample pH is enough to maintain linearity.
Type 1 neutral borosilicate glass is suitable for neutral/acid samples with little change of pH caused by the glass surface.
For analysis of compounds which show interactions with untreated glass surfaces, it may be necessary to use a deactivated glass vial. The effect of adsorption is most apparent when dealing with very low concentrations of the sample. It is likely that this effect will only be identified during calibration. Analytical results will show poor reproducibility and linearity for active samples while non-adsorbing species show good results.
Inert glass products can be found in Performance level 3, and include silanized glass and GOLD-grade technology deactivated glass.
Microvials are suitable for use when sample volume is limited or when you need to get maximum recovery from the vial. These vials allow small volumes to be sampled accurately by autosamplers with a recoverable volume of much less than 100 µL. High recovery, total recovery, and vials with fixed inserts are all classed as microvials.
