The Ethos Biosciences TBARS Malondialdehyde Oxidative Stress assay measures thiobarbituric acid reactive substances in biological specimens Reactive oxygen species are a consequence of oxidative metabolism which are balanced by reducing capacity under normal conditions Under disease conditions this balance may be lost causing oxidative stress damage such as lipid peroxidation Upon metabolic breakdown of altered lipids formation of secondary messengers including malondialdehyde (MDA) can occur allowing measurement of MDA as an assessment of oxidative stress The TBARS Malondialdehyde Oxidative Stress Assay depends on the reaction of thiobarbituric acid and MDA under acidic conditions to form an adduct Results are reported in MDA equivalents This assay comes with all the reagents needed to run 80 samples or 40 in duplicate (recommended) using either fluorometric or spectrophotometric methods on a microplate
