O-(Benzotriazol-1-yl)-N,N,N',N'-tetramethyluronium-tetrafluoroborate. TBTU is successfully used as coupling reagent in solid phase peptide synthesis. It acts as an excellent activating reagent causing low racemization during condensation of peptide segments. A study of the structure of TBTU in solid state as well as in solution by Abdelmoty et al. showed that the compound is a guanidinium N-oxide and not an uronium salt.
