Tetrathionate HiVeg Broth Base, Hajna is an animal-component-free selective broth for the enrichment of Salmonella from food and clinical specimens. Built on the plant-based HiVeg system, it uses vegetable peptones in place of animal peptones. An iodine-iodide solution added before use generates tetrathionate, which Salmonella tolerate and use while competing coliforms and other flora are held back.
