Tiamulin is a diterpenic antibiotic widely used in pigs and poultry to control infectious diseases, particularly airsacculitis caused by Mycoplasma spp. This semisynthetic derivative of Pleuromutilin is highly effective against various Mycoplasma strains, Spirochaetes, and gram-positive bacteria by binding to rRNA and inhibiting protein production. It is less active against gram-negative bacteria. Tiamulin has been shown to be effective in treating avian intestinal spirochaetosis.
